The paper deals with the dynamics of the complex exponential family. More precisely, the authors suggest a new method for estimating from above the Hausdorff dimension of various dynamically defined sets. The statements are rather technical, but in particular the optimal upper estimate by \(1\) for the Hausdorff dimension of indecomposable continua contained in the escaping set of the map (as studied by several authors) can be obtained. The methods are typical for nonuniformly hyperbolic dynamics and are based on inducing and expansion in the asymptotic tract which contains the positive real line.
