Consider in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq 2\), the system \[ \partial_t\rho + \operatorname{div} (\rho u)=0, \;\;\partial_t(\rho u) +\operatorname{div} (\rho u \otimes u)-\operatorname{div} (2\mu (\rho)D(u)) - \nabla (\lambda (\rho) \operatorname{div} u)+ \nabla P(\rho)=0, \] which describes the motion of a barotropic compressible fluid. Here \(u\) is the velocity field, \(\rho\) is the density of the fluid, and \(D(u)=(1/2)(\nabla u +^t\nabla u) \) is the strain tensor. In this paper it is assumed that \(\mu (\rho) = \mu \rho\) with \(\mu >0\) and \(\lambda (\rho)=0\), i.e., the above system corresponds to the viscous shallow-water flow. The author shows the existence of a \textbf{global strong solution} of the above system with \textbf{large initial data} for the scaling of the equations. This is a nice result towards solving the problem of existence of strong solutions for arbitrary initial data.
