The paper derives several theorems concerning the oscillatory (and nonoscillatory) behavior of proper solutions of neutral linear functional differential equations of the type \[ \frac{d^ n}{dt^ n}[x(t)- h(t)x(\tau (t))]+\sigma \sum^{n}_{i=1}p_ i(t)x(g_ i(t))=0 \] where \(n\geq 2\) and \(\sigma =1\) or -1. The work extends a Ruan's result of second order equations to n-th order equations. The last section contains criteria for oscillation of all proper solutions. The bibliography includes 15 papers.
