The nonlinear Schrödinger system considered here reads \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u+V_1(x)u=\mu_1(x)u^3+\beta(x)uv^2\quad\text{ in }{\mathbb R}^N,\\ -\Delta v+V_2(x)v=\beta(x)u^2v+\mu_2(x)v^3\quad\text{ in }{\mathbb R}^N,\\ u>0,\,v>0,\qquad u,v\in H^1({\mathbb R}^N) \end{cases} \] with \(N\leq3\) and continuous functions \(V_j,\mu_j,\beta\). Using variational methods, the authors give conditions, both for \(\beta\) small and \(\beta\) large, under which a positive solution exists. In some cases, they allow a finite subgroup \(G\) of \(O(N)\) to be given, and they find \(G\)-invariant positive solutions. The conditions to be imposed are technical, which is no surprise given the rather general setting with respect to the coefficient functions.
