The author outlines a new cognitive reconstruction of Archytas' solution of the cube doubling problem, starting from the classical square doubling by the height of a right-angle triangle. Such a reconstruction has been tried in the past by many authors: Viviani, Loria, Becker, Tannery, Knorr, most of all as based on the study of the related `geometrical loci'. The novelty of this new reconstruction is in a more kinematical reading.
