This paper provides a long time existence result of order \(\epsilon^{-2n}\) for solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation: \[ (\partial_t^2-\partial_x^2+x^{2\alpha}+m^2)u=u^{n+1}\quad (t,x)\in\mathbb{R}^2,\quad \alpha\geq 2 \] with small initial data (of order \(\epsilon\ll 1\)) in some \(\alpha\)-weighted Sobolev space. As usual, this result holds for almost all \(m\in\mathbb{R}\). The proof of this result closely follows the lines of [\textit{Q. Zhang}, Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 35, No. 4, 630--668 (2010; Zbl 1201.35145)]. The author's new idea is to take \(\alpha\) big enough (in Zhang \(\alpha=1\)) so that the spectrum is better separated, thus improving estimates in the small divisors problem. This enables the author to use a normal form which gets rid of the \(n+1\)st order nonlinear terms without restrictions (contrary to Zhang). An open question is if one can extend this existence result by using a second normal form.
