Equivariant Chern classes of Atiyah-real vector bundles were first defined and studied by \textit{B. Kahn} [Commun. Algebra 15, 695--711 (1987; Zbl 0615.57012)]. The aim of the paper under review is to obtain these classes by another approach, using the theory of conjugation spaces in the sense of \textit{J.-C. Hausmann, T. Holm} and \textit{V. Puppe} [Algebr. Geom. Topol. 5, 923--964 (2005; Zbl 1081.55006)], and explain some of the properties of the equivariant Chern classes (in particular, reasons for twisting in the corresponding equivariant cohomology groups with integer coefficients).
