This article deals with an inverse problem associated with a size-structured population balance equation (PBE) predicting the evolution of the number distribution of a single cell population as a function of the size variable. The inverse problem consists in determining the unknown rate function from the considered PBE under the assumption of equal partitioning. The technique of solving the inverse problem is based on the approximate inverse method, a pointwise regularization scheme. The authors present the theoretical analysis of the inverse problem, as well as some numerical results.
