The author studies first the homotopy theory of a comma category based on his abstract homotopy theory (reviewed here and to appear in Hiroshima Math. J.). In the particular case of the ex-homotopy category [\textit{I. M. James}, Ill. J. Math. 15, 324-337 (1971; Zbl 0225.55012)], the present paper defines the cell structure and Postnikov system and obtains the duality between them. One has then spectral sequences and shows that Maunder type theorem hold [\textit{C. R. F. Maunder} [Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 59, 567-574 (1963; Zbl 0116.146)], i.e., the obtained homotopy spectral sequences are isomorphic as exact couples.
