The authors extend the work of \textit{R. Schaaf} [Adv. Differ. Equ. 5, No.~10--12, 1201--1220 (2000; Zbl 0989.35056)] and \textit{K. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers. NATO ASI Ser., Ser. C, Math. Phys. Sci. 472, 447--500 (1995; Zbl 0846.35049)] to establish uniqueness of solutions obtained by bifurcation techniques. In this study there are given sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of solutions for problems \(\Delta u + \lambda f(u)=0\) and \(\Delta u + f(u+\mu) = 0\), as well as for nonlocal problems \(\Delta u + \kappa\frac{\lambda f(u)}{\int_\Omega f(u)\,dx} =0\) and \(\Delta u + f(u+\mu) = 0\), with a prescribed \(M = \int_\Omega f(u+\mu)\,dx\), set in a star-shaped domain \(\Omega\). The general idea behind this work is the fact that the Pohozaev technique (which has been used mainly to prove the non-existence of non-trivial solutions) actually establishes the uniqueness of the trivial solution.
