The author treats \(N\)-dimensional autonomous competitive Lotka-Volterra systems under the usual assumptions. He clarifies a conjecture established by himself in a previous paper, namely, that, under some weak additional condition, an equilibrium in the open positive sector is necessarily globally attractive. The author constructs a six-dimensional counterexample by choosing the inherent matrix to be of appropriate circular type. The corresponding system then is shown to exhibit Hopf bifurcation, thus proving that the positive equilibrium is not globally attractive. Finally, in the case of this latter type of \(N\)-dimensional systems, some sufficient conditions for global attractivity of the positive equilibrium are obtained by using results from earlier papers.
