The paper is divided into two parts. The first part is concerned with the uniform exponential stability of evolution families. The authors show that an evolution family \(\{U(t,s)\}_{t \geq s \geq 0}\) is uniformly exponentially stable if and only if there exist \(C, p > 0\) and a function \(\gamma\) with \(\lim_{t \to \infty}\gamma(t)=\infty\) such that for all x, \[ \sup_{t > s}\frac{\gamma(t-s)}{t-s}\int_s^t \|U(\tau,s)x\|^p \,d\tau \leq C\|x\|^p. \] The interest here is that Datko's theorem [\textit{R. Datko}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 32, 610--616 (1970; Zbl 0211.16802)] is a special case of the result above, namely the case \(\gamma(t)=t\). There are two proofs presented. The first proof relies on the following lemma discovered by \textit{Yu. L. Daletskiĭ} and \textit{M. G. Kreĭn} (see Theorem 6.1, page 132 of [Stability of solutions of differential equations in Banach space. Translations of Mathematical Monographs. Vol. 43. Providence, R.I.: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1974; Zbl 0286.34094)]). For the uniformly exponential stability of \(\{U(t,s)\}_{t \geq s \geq 0}\) it is necessary and sufficient that there exist \(T>0\) and \(c \in (0,1)\) for which the following condition is satisfied: for every \(t \geq 0\) and \(x \in X\) there exists a number \(\theta_{t,x} \in (0,T]\) with the property that \[ \|U(\theta_{t,x}+t,t)x\| \leq c\|x\|. \] For the second proof, the authors add the condition that the function \(\gamma\) is locally bounded. In the second part, the authors give similar results for the case of uniform exponential blow-up by extending previous techniques for the uniform exponential stability. Lemma 3.1 is introduced in the paper [Dyn. Contin. Discrete Impuls. Syst., Ser. A, Math. Anal. 17, No. 3, 445--452 (2010; Zbl 1196.34080)] of the same authors. Also, results for the time-discrete case are presented.
