    For \(q \equiv 0\bmod 5\) or for \(q^2 \equiv 1\bmod 5\), the automorphism group of the Hall plane of order \(q^2\) inherits a subgroup \(\text{SL} (2,5)\) from the Desarguesian plane over \(\text{GF}(q^2)\). In the second case, there are also some multiply derived translation planes with this property, compare \textit{O. Prohaska} [Arch. Math. 28, 550-556 (1977; Zbl 0354.50015)], \textit{V. Abatangelo} and \textit{B. Larato} [Ann. Discr. Math. 30, 1-7 (1986; Zbl 0605.51004)]. Therefore, the authors concentrate on the case \(q^2 \equiv -1 \bmod 5\). Assume, moreover, that one of the following conditions is satisfied: (a) \(q \equiv 2 \bmod 3\), (b) \(q \equiv 1 \bmod 3\) and \(q \equiv 1 \bmod 4\), (c) \(q \not\equiv 0 \bmod 3\) and \(q \equiv 3\), \(5\), or \(6 \bmod 7\). Then there exists a multiply derived translation plane of order \(q^2\) with an inherited group \(\text{SL} (2,5)\). On the other hand, there is no such plane for \(q = 3\), \(7\), or \(27\).
