The authors show that for any \(\alpha,\beta>0\) with \(\alpha+\beta=1\) there are two spirallike functions \(f(z)=z+a_ 2z^ 2+\cdots\), and \(g(z)=z+b_ 2z^ 2+\cdots\) such that the arithmetic convex combination \(\alpha f+\beta g\), and the geometric convex combination \(z(f/z)^ \alpha (g/z)^ \beta\) have valence infinity in the unit disk.
