The aim of this paper is to study the existence of periodic solutions for second-order neutral functional differential systems with a delay operator varying in time of the form \[ \frac{d^2}{dt^2}(x(t)-C(t)\,x(t-r))+\frac{d}{dt}\,\text{grad}\, F(x(t))+\text{grad}\, G(x(t-\gamma(t)))=e(t)\,, \] where \(F\in C^2({\mathbb{R}}^n,{\mathbb{R}})\), \(G\in C^1({\mathbb{R}}^n,{\mathbb{R}})\), \(e\in C({\mathbb{R}},{\mathbb{R}}^n)\) is \(T\)-periodic, i.e. \(e(t+T)\equiv e(t)\), \(\int_0^Te(t)\,dt=\mathbf{0}\), \(\gamma\in C^1({\mathbb{R}},{\mathbb{R}})\) is also \(T\)-periodic, and \(C\in C^2({\mathbb{R}},{\mathbb{R}}^{n\times n})\) is a symmetric matrix for all \(t\in{\mathbb{R}}\). The authors apply Mawhin's continuation theorem to obtain some results on the existence of \(T\)-periodic solutions for this class of systems, and they illustrate the results with simple numerical simulations.
