If \(k\) is a field of characteristic \(p\neq 0\) and \(K\) its purely transcendental extension of finite transcendence degree \(R\) then a \(k\)-automorphism of \(K\) is called rational iff its fixed field is a purely transcendental extension of \(k\), and is called linear iff there is a transcendence basis of \(K\) on which it acts linearly. It is proved that every linear automorphism whose order is a power of \(p\) is rational and completely determined by its order and \(R\). See \textit{H. Kuniyoshi}, Tôhoku Math. J., II. Ser. 6, 101--108 (1954; Zbl 0058.26605).
