The author proves the following Theorem: ''Let A be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field k, such that the number of isomorphism classes of finite dimensional indecomposable left A-module is finite. Given any non simple indecomposable U, there exist indecomposables \(U_ 1\) and \(U_ 2\) and an exact sequence \(0\to U_ 1\to U\to U_ 2\to 0\) such that \(U_ 1\) or \(U_ 2\) is simple.'' The proof is reduced by coverings to the case of simply connected algebras [\textit{K. Bongartz}, \textit{P. Gabriel}, Invent. Math. 65, 331-378 (1982; Zbl 0482.16026)] and uses a geometric interpretation of extension groups given by \textit{D. Voigt} [Induzierte Darstellungen in der Theorie der endlichen algebraischen Gruppen, Lect. Notes Math. 592 (1977; Zbl 0374.14010)].
