The authors study a linear non-standard eigenvalue problem for the Laplacian in a bounded, multiply connected region \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}}^ 2\), where the eigenvalue parameter appears also in non-local boundary conditions. The model governs the vibrations of a tube bundle immersed in an inviscid compressible fluid. It is shown, that the problem under consideration is equivalent to that of determining the characteristic values of a linear, compact, selfadjoint operator. Starting from two simplified versions of the problem, bounds for the eigenvalues are established using general theorems for compact operators as well as homotopy and continuity arguments, respectively.
