Considering \(k\) a commutative ring and \(G\) a group, a \(G\)-graded Clifford system over \(k\) is a \(k\)-algebra \(S\) together with a family of \(k\)-submodules \(S_\sigma\), \(\sigma\in G\), such that \(S=\bigoplus S_\sigma\) and \(S_\sigma S_\tau=S_{\sigma\tau}\). If \(R\) is a \(k\)-algebra, a \(G\)-graded Clifford system extension of \(R\) is a pair \((S,j)\) where \(j\colon R\hookrightarrow S\) is a \(k\)-algebra embedding with \(j(R)=S_1\). Each \(G\)-graded Clifford system extension realizes a generalized collective character of \(G\) in \(R\), i.e. a group homomorphism \(\Phi\colon G\to\text{Pic}_k(R)\) into the isomorphism classes of invertible left \(R\otimes R^o\) modules, through the canonical map \(\chi\) from the set of equivalence classes of \(G\)-graded Clifford system extensions given by \(\chi_{[S,j]}(\sigma)=[S_\sigma]\). The main result of this paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a collective character \(\Phi\) to be realizable in terms of a 3-dimensional cohomology class, the Teichmüller obstruction of \(\Phi\). The last part of the paper explains a non-realizable collective character.
