In mathematical physics, the weather forecasting is treated as an initial value problem applied to a suitably chosen model atmosphere. The authors study the well-posedness of the mathematical problem for a particular climate model in which the top boundary layer is the zero pressure isobar. The model is simplified by the exclusion of water vapor transport processes. The considered set of partial differential equations comprises two components of horizontal air motions in a rotating atmosphere, the thermodynamic and energy conservation law, and the continuity equation. These equations are supplemented by the boundary conditions imposed at the bottom and top of the atmosphere. The existence of the weak solution as well as the uniqueness of the strong solution is proven for the considered model with the standard stratification.
