Let \(G\) be a group. A complete map of \(G\) is a permutation \(\phi\colon G\to G\) such that \(g\mapsto g\phi(g)\) is still a permutation of \(G\). The HP-conjecture [\textit{M. Hall} and \textit{L. J. Paige}, Pac. J. Math. 5, 541-549 (1955; Zbl 0066.27703)] states that every finite group whose Sylow 2-subgroup is non-trivial and non-cyclic admits a complete map. The authors find the structure of a potential counterexample of minimal order to the HP-conjecture.
