For an elastic-perfectly plastic bar structure with known physical and geometric characteristics under cycle loading with given physical and geometric characteristics as well as under a cyclic loading with given time-dependent variation, the author uses the quadratic programming in order to determine the residual displacements at a moment before the plastic failure. The distribution of actual residual forces is assumed to be unique for all prescribed histories of loading at the same moment. Therefore, it is possible to perform the calculations by applying energy principles (of minimal complementary energy and of minimal potential energy). The author supposes that cross-sections may exhibit plastic stretch only if they are stressed to the corresponding yield limit. The kinematic and static equations are obtained as a dual pair in the framework of quadratic programming. The mentioned time moment, which occurs for a factor of shakedown safety approximate equal to unity, determines the degeneracy of the extremum problem in the kinematic formulation, which involves a degeneracy due to non-unique displacements and strains. In order to solve correctly the problem, the author employs compatibility equations for residual stresses and variation bounds for residual displacements that are not correlated to the time.
