A method for the quantization of the Hamiltonian action of a compact group on its coadjoint orbit is presented. The method is based on the functional integral form of the matrix elements of the corresponding representation of the group. The simplest case of the group SO(3) considered in the previous paper (1965) is investigated in the introduction in order to illustrate the underlying ideas of the general approach. In the main text unitary and orthogonal groups are considered. The main technical problem, the generalization of the SO(3) example to the higher rank case, consists in finding ``Darboux variables'' for the canonical symplectic form on the orbit, that is the subject of the first two sections of the paper. In the third section they are used in evaluating the functional integral by reducing it to finite-dimensional one.
