Mechanical parts usually consist of special surfaces. We need to smooth the edges of `sharp' intersections of these surfaces by using the so- called transition surfaces. The process of smoothing sharp intersections is called blending. In this paper a general algorithm is given for blending two implicit surfaces by using plane \(G^ 2\)-functional splines which join the original intersecting surfaces \(G^ 2\)-continuously. In some special cases the equations of the transition surfaces can be determined and the full \(G^ 2\)-continuity is guaranteed.
