The paper presents methods for extending rational \(B\)-spline curves and surfaces. A geometric approach is taken, with the emphasis on continuity conditions between the original geometry and its extension, i.e. tangent- plane continuity and curvature continuity. The basic idea is to use a reflection strategy mainly to the control points. Therefore a suitable subdivision scheme will be discussed. Then the curve scheme is generalized to surfaces by exploiting tensor-product properties of \(B\)- splines. Some illustrating figures complete the paper.
