From two inverse semigroups, another inverse semigroup known as the standard \(\lambda\)-wreath product may be constructed. The author shows that any inverse semigroup can be embedded in the \(\lambda\)-wreath product of the kernel and the quotient semigroup with respect to a congruence satisfying certain conditions. This result can be interpreted as a generalization of the Kalužnin-Krasner theorem, which states that every extension of one group by another can be embedded in their standard wreath product. One consequence is a theorem which generalizes the ``splitting theorem'' of group theory. Another is a relatively explicit solution of the normal extension problem for inverse semigroups. Finally the author obtains a general representation theorem for \(\omega\)- regular semigroups, and shows how some classical results can be deduced.
