Let \({\mathbf A}\) be the generator of a linear \(C_0\)-semigroup on a Banach space \(X\) and \({\mathbf B}\) a possibly nonlinear operator in \(X\) defined on \(D\subset X\), loally continuous respective a semicontinuous function \(\phi\) on \(X\) such that \(D\subset D(\phi):= \{v\in X''\phi(v)< \infty\}\) and the level sets \(D_\alpha= \{v\in D: \phi(v)\leq \alpha\}\), \(\alpha\geq 0\) are closed. The generation and characterization of the nonlinear locally Lipschitzian semigroup solving -- in a generalized sense -- the semilinear evolution equation \[ u'(t)=({\mathbf A}+{\mathbf B}) u(t),\quad t> 0, \] are discussed in terms of a semilinear stability condition and a subtangential condition, where \(D\) and \(\phi\) need not be convex. In case \(D\) and \(\phi\) are convex, the conditions may be replaced by the usual range condition, exact exponential growth condition, and quasi-dissipative condition, and a semilinear Hille-Yosida theorem is obtained. The corresponding groups are studied also.
