Let \(\alpha=[b_0; b_1,\dots, b_s,\overline {c_1+\lambda d_1, \dots, c_m+\lambda d_m}]\), where all the numbers \(b_i,c_i,d_i \in\mathbb{Z}\); \(b_i, c_i\geq 1\), \(d_i\geq 0\) \((i\geq 1)\). Also let \(d=\max_{1\leq i\leq m}d_i\), \(\Omega=\) the number of the numbers \(d_i>0\), and \(c=\Omega/d\). The author proves that if \(\Omega >0\), and \(\varepsilon >0\) is arbitrary, then the inequality \[ |\alpha- p/q|<(c+ \varepsilon) \log\log q(q^2\log q)^{-1} \] has infinitely many solutions \(p/q\in\mathbb{Q}\), and the inequality \[ |\alpha- p/q|<(c-\varepsilon) \log\log q(q^2\log q)^{-1} \] has only finitely many solutions \(p/q \in\mathbb{Q}\). Taking \(\alpha= e=[2;\overline {1,2+2\lambda,1}]\), one gets a previous result by \textit{C. S. Davis} [J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 25, 497-502 (1978; Zbl 0393.10038)]. A similar result for \(\alpha=[a_0;\undersetbrace m\to{a^\lambda,\dots, a^\lambda}]^\infty_{\lambda=1}\) \((a_0,a,m \in\mathbb{Z}; a,m>1)\) is also given. Furthermore, as new results, the continued fraction expansions of the numbers\break \((v/u)^{1/2} \tanh(uv)^{-1/2}\) \((u,v\in\mathbb{N})\), \(j^{\pm 1}e\) \((j=2, 3,4)\), \(ae^{1/a}\) \((a\in\mathbb{N})\), \(a^{-1}e^{1/a}\) \((a\in\mathbb{Z},a>1)\), \(\tan(1/a)\) \((a\in \mathbb{Z},a>1)\), \(\tan 1,a^{1/2}\tan (a^{-1/2})\) \((a\in\mathbb{N})\), \(a^{-1/2}\tan (a^{-1/2})\) \((a\in\mathbb{Z}, a>1)\), and \(2^{\pm 1}\tan 1\) are also derived.
