For a given pair of maps \(f, g:X\to M\) from an arbitrary topological space \(X\) to an \(n\)-dimensional manifold \(M\), the author defines the Lefschetz homomorphism as a certain graded homomorphism \(\Lambda_{(f, g)}:H(X)\to H(M)\) of degree \(-n\) between homology groups, and then he proves the following Lefschetz-type coincidence theorem: if the Lefschetz homomorphism is nontrivial then there is an \(x\in X\) such that \(f(x)=g(x)\).
