The paper concerns the zero-free region of the Riemann zeta-function \(\zeta(s)\). With \(s=\sigma +it\), Vinogradov has shown that \(\zeta(s)\neq 0\) for \(\sigma>1-cY(t)^{-1}\), \(c\) a positive absolute constant and \(Y(t)=(\log(|t|+3))^{2/3}(\log\log(|t|+3))^{1/3}\). As a consequence, \(\zeta(1+it)^{-1}\ll Y(T)\). Here, the author assumes a condition \[ \zeta (1+iT)^{-1}\gg f(T)(\log T)^{2/3}(\log\log T)^{1/4} \] for sufficiently large \(T\), with \(f(T)\) monotonically increasing to \(\infty\), in order to show that \(\zeta(s)\neq 0\) for \[ \sigma >1-c\frac{\log f(T)}{(\log T)^{2/3}(\log\log T)^{1/3}},\quad |t|<T/2. \]
