    The hydrodynamic limit for the Ginzburg-Landau \(\nabla\varphi\) interface model on a torus was obtained by \textit{T. Funaki} and \textit{H. Spohn} [Commun.\ Math. Phys. 185, No.~1, 1-36 (1997; Zbl 0884.58098)]. Here the authors establish the large deviation principle in this limit with the dynamic rate functional \[ I(h)={1\over 4}\int_0^Tdt\int_{{\mathbf T}^d} \Bigl\{{\partial h\over\partial t} -{\text{div}}\bigl(\nabla\sigma(\nabla h)\bigr)\Bigr\}^2 d\theta, \] where \(h=h(t,\theta)\), \(t\in[0,T]\), \(\theta\in{\mathbf T}^d\), and \(\sigma=\sigma(u)\) is the surface tension with mean tilt \(u\in{\mathbb R}^d\), and discuss the connections with the static result by \textit{J.-D. Deuschel, G. Giacomin} and \textit{D. Ioffe} [Probab.\ Theory Relat.\ Fields 117, No.~1, 49-111 (2000; Zbl 0988.82018)]. The argument is based upon the \(H^{-1}\)-approach by \textit{C. Landim} and \textit{H.-T. Yau} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 48, No.~4, 339-379 (1995; Zbl 0822.60092)].
