The authors describe maximal subalgebras of finite-dimensional simple special Jordan superalgebras with semisimple even part over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(0\). The study under review relies significantly on a previous work in 2004 where they completed the study of maximal subalgebras of finite dimensional central simple superalgebras which are associative or associative with superinvolution. The easiest case to explain in their classification is that of maximal subalgebras \(B\) of \(A^+\) where \(A\) is a simple associative superalgebra. To illustrate the ``modus operandi'' we explain some details on this case. Denoting by \(B'\) the associative subalgebra of \(A\) generated by a subalgebra \(B\) of \(A^+\), the authors get to prove that there are three possibilities: \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] \(B'=A\) and \(B\) is semisimple. \item[(ii)] \(B=C^+\) for some maximal subalgebra \(C\) of \(A\). \item[(iii)] \(B'=A\) and \(B\) is not semisimple. In the first case they prove that \(B=H(A,*)\) for some superinvolution \(*\) of \(A\). The second case reduces the problem directly to an associative question solved in previous works. It is emphasized also that the third situation does not appear in the ungraded study. However in the super case the authors exhibit a maximal subalgebra \(B\) of \(M_{1,1}(F)^+\) such that \(B'=M_{1,1}(F)\) and \(B\) is not semisimple. This case seems to remain open.\end{itemize}
