This paper deals with the concept of perfect linkage of a Cohen-Macaulay module \(M\) of codimension 'say \(r\) over a Gorenstein ring \(R\). Let \(f:P\to M\) be any surjection from a perfect module \(P\) of the same codimension as \(M\) to \(M\). Such a thing exists and may not be unique. Let us fix such a morphism. The paper's focus is on \(L_f(M):=\mathrm{Ext}^r_R(\ker f,M)\). The authors call this a perfect linkage of \(M\). There is another notion of linkage of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules introduced in [\textit{Y. Yoshino} and \textit{S. Isogawa}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 149, No. 3, 305--318 (2000; Zbl 0955.13004)]. As a first main result, there is a relationship between the perfect linkage and the Yoshino-Isogawa linkage. They do this by computing the maximal Cohen-Macaulay approximation of \(L_f(M)\) and its syzygies. As the authors says, this recovers the main result of Yoshino and Isogawa [loc. cit.]. Double perfect linkage of Cohen-Macaulay modules is the next subject of this paper. Finally, in the codimension-one case, there are several corollaries. Let us state one of them: Let \(M, N\) be perfectly linked Cohen-Macaulay \(R\)-modules of codimension one. Then \(M, N\) are either doubly or triply perfectly linked.
