Let \(X\) be a metric space, \(f:X\to X\) be a continuous map. \textit{M. Entov} and \textit{L. Polterovich} [Nonlinearity 30, No. 1, 13--34 (2017; Zbl 1375.37147)] formulated a problem about the existence of a continuous real-valued function \(\theta\) such that \(\theta f-\theta\leq1\), \(\theta \mid A \leq 0\) and \(\theta \mid B\geq n\) for given closed subsets \(A\) and \(B\) in \(X\) and for integer \(n\geq 1\). The author proves the existence of such a function under the additional assumption that \(A\) is compact.
