Weakly asymmetric exclusion processes arise as simple models for the growth of random interfaces. The underlying stochastic lattice gas dynamics, with hard core repulsion and a weak asymmetry to the right, breaks the detailed balance conditions which forces the system to exhibit a nontrivial scaling behavior, even in stationary situation. The challenging problem of a limit distribution of the density and that of the particle current are addressed. The crossover regime to the KPZ equation is characterised for a class of one-dimensional weakly asymmetric exclusion processes by the strength asymmetry exponent. It occurs at \(z=3/2\). It is shown that, for \(z \in [1,3/2)\), the density field is a solution of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equation, while, for \(z=3/2\), it is an energy solution of the KPZ equation. The corresponding crossover for the current of particles is obtained as well.
