The author generalizes some existence and multiplicity results for periodic solutions already established for scalar second order differential equations to planar Hamiltonian systems. He defines a notion of superlinearity for such systems which is rather general, and proves a theorem on the existence of infinitely many harmonic and subharmonic solutions. The proof makes use of a generalized version of the Poincaré-Birkhoff fixed point theorem in the plane.
