The degenerate Eisenstein series attached to parabolic subgroups of classical groups have been studied extensively with various applications in the theory of automorphic forms, such as explicit construction of automorphic \(L\)-functions and Siegel-Weil formula. To obtain the images and poles of degenerate Eisenstein series, one needs to understand various types of degenerate principal series representations and standard intertwining operators that appear in the constant term of Eisenstein series. In particular the Siegel Eisenstein series for symplectic and metaplectic groups have been studied by \textit{S. S. Kudla} and \textit{S. Rallis} [Isr. J. Math. 69, No. 1, 25--45 (1990; Zbl 0708.22005)]. The paper under review gives a complete description of the images and poles of the degenerate Eisenstein series attached to Siegel parabolic as well as Heisenberg parabolic subgroup of \(\operatorname{Sp}_4\). The authors' answer is given in terms of the Langlands classification based on the approach to the Archimedean components in the previous work of the second named author [Glas. Mat., III. Ser. 44, No. 2, 349--399 (2009; Zbl 1186.22019)], which is hard to see from the above mentioned work of Kudla and Rallis.
