The idea of sensitivity was introduced by \textit{J. Guckenheimer} [Commun. Math. Phys. 70, 133--160 (1979; Zbl 0429.58012)] and since then many authors have been interested in the subject. For example, now sensitivity plays an important role in the theory of chaos. Let \(C^0(X)\) be the set of all continuous self-maps of a compact metric space \(X\). In the present paper the authors give the following result: if the Peano continuum \(X\) contains a free arc and admits a sensitive commutative subsemigroup \(F\) of \(C^0(X)\) consisting of local homeomorphisms, then \(X\) is a circle. In the last part of the paper the authors give an example where they show that there is a continuum \(X\) containing a free arc which admits a sensitive homeomorphism.
