The paper is a part of a larger study started by the authors on functions of operators under various perturbations. Here, they obtain sharp estimates for the Schatten--von Neumann norms of first order differences \(f(A)-f(B)\) and higher order differences for functions \(f\) that belong to a Hölder-Zygmund class. The consistent study is organized in 11 sections, and provides a useful start for further investigations. After the introduction, where the necessary notions and the topic are introduced, in the second one the Besov spaces, which will play an important role in the studied perturbation problems, are analysed. An introduction to quasinormed ideals of operators on Hilbert spaces is given in the third section, and in the fourth, multiple operator integrals with respect to spectral and semi-spectral measures are analysed. In the following three sections, sufficient conditions for functions of selfadjoint operators, functions of unitary operators and contractions are obtained. In the eighth section, the case of finite rank perturbations is analysed, and in the ninth section, analogous results in the case of selfadjoint operators are obtained. Trace formulae for second order differences in the case of selfadjoint operators and unitary operators are obtained in the tenth section, and in the last section, estimates for the norms of quasicommutators \(f(A)R-Rf(B)\) in terms of \(\|AR-RB\|\) for selfadjoint operators \(A\) and \(B\) and a bounded operator \(R\) are obtained.
