This paper deals with a novel application of Pontryagin's maximum principle: How can we cut out from an assembly line congruent surface patches that are bent in pairs to cylindric surfaces and fixed to boxes having maximum volume relatively to the needed material ? - The solution is given by a qualified rectangle with circular rounded corners.
