In the evolving theory of fusion systems there is still debate on which way of defining certain analogues of group theoretic concepts is the ``right'' one. The paper under review tries to give a clearer and more elementary exposition of some fundamental notions and results in the theory. Control of fusion, quotients, and \(p\)-soluble fusion systems are considered. For control of fusion, the three main theorems in the literature are proved in a significantly shorter way. To prove one of these, and a theorem of Aschbacher that the product of strongly closed subgroups is strongly closed, a new treatment of quotients is provided; also analogues of the isomorphism theorems for fusion systems are included. The author then moves on to \(p\)-soluble fusion systems, and proves that they are constrained, allowing him to effectively characterize fusion systems of \(p\)-soluble groups. This leads to a recast of Thompson Factorization for \(Qd(p)\)-free fusion systems, and consideration of it for more general fusion systems.
