This article is concerned with Gelfand models for certain complex reflection groups. Recall that a Gelfand model for a finite group is a module for the group algebra (over the complex numbers) which is isomorphic to the direct sum of the inequivalent irreducible representations of the group. In a previous article, the first author has constructed such models for certain of the complex reflection groups of the form \(G(r,p,n)\). The aim of the paper under review is to show that these Gelfand models (in the particular case where the group is just the wreath product of a symmetric group with a cyclic group) decompose in a natural way, with summands corresponding to the `symmetric conjugacy classes'. The authors do not really give any motivation for doing this, but it is interesting that one can do this. The proof is by considering the generalised Robinson-Schensted correspondence for these wreath products. The proof is well presented; the authors take the sensible step of concentrating on the case of the Coxeter group of type \(B_n\) before generalising. In summary, this is a well-written paper, but for a reader not familiar with Gelfand models, it may not seem particularly interesting.
