The authors study the structure of singular Calabi-Yau varietes in moduli spaces that contain a Brieskorn-Pham point. In particular, they construct families of deformed motives over the parameter space. For each of these families the authors investigate the degenerations of the so-called \(\Omega\)-motive at singular members of the family that are not of conifold type. For some of the families they show that the motive associated with the singular fibers coincides with the motive associated with a Fermat hypersurface of different dimension. In the second part of the paper they investigate the conformal field theoretical aspects of the previous results.
