The authors consider the numerical solution of the following fourth order boundary value problem \[ y^{(4)}+f(t)y=g(t),\;a\leq t\leq b \] subject to appropriate boundary conditions. They solve these boundary value problems by means of exponentially fitted methods of different orders. These methods, which depend on a parameter, can be constructed following a six-step flow chart of \textit{L. Gr. Ixaru} and \textit{G. Vanden Berghe} [Exponential fitting. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers (2004; Zbl 1105.65082)]. In the first section, the authors consider five steps. Then they give the error analysis for the last step. Two numerical examples for \(y^{(4)}-y=4e^t\) and \(y^{(4)}-\left(\dfrac{384t^4}{(2+t^2)^4}\right)y=24\left(\dfrac{2-11t^2}{(2+t^2)^4}\right)\) with boundary conditions are given to illustrate these methods.
