Let F denote an algebraic function field in one variable over a finite field with q elements. The well known Prime Divisor Theorem states that \[ P_ F(m)=q^ m/m+O(q^{m/2}/m), \] where \(P_ F(m)\) denotes the number of prime divisors of degree r in F. The present authors use this to derive an asymptotic formula for the number \(\pi_ F(x)\) of prime divisors of norm \(\leq x\) in F. In a note added in proof they point out that a lemma they prove for this purpose also follows from one (Lemma 9.6) in the reviewer's monograph [Analytic Arithmetic of Algebraic Function Fields, Dekker (1979; Zbl 0411.10001), page 86]. (In fact the latter Lemma 9.6 also leads to a sharper form of their main conclusion for \(\pi_ F(x)\).)
