Let \(E\) be an ideal of \(L^0\) over a \(\sigma\)-finite measure space and let \((X,\|\cdot\|_X)\) be a real Banach space. A subspace \(E(X)\) of \(L^0(X)\) and its order continuous dual \(E(X)_n^\sim\) are considered. The author investigates properties of the Mackey topology \(\tau(E(X)\), \(E^n(X)_n^\sim)\). If \(E\) is a perfect ideal of \(L^0\) and \(\tau(E(X)\), \(E(x)_n^\sim)\) is locally solid, then the space \(E(X)\) with the above Mackey topology is complete and sequentially barrelled. With the same assumptions, \(E(x)_n^\sim\) is complete with respect to the weak topology \(\sigma(E(X)_n^\sim\), \(E(X))\); this implies immediately the Hahn--Vitali--Saks type theorem for sequences in \(E(X)_n^\sim\). The results are applied to Orlicz--Bochner spaces \(L^\varphi(X)\) provided with the modular topology \(\widehat \tau_\varphi(X)\). Special results for Orlicz--Bochner spaces \(L^\varphi(x)\) are obtained, assuming that the Mackey topology \(\tau(L^\varphi (X), L^{\varphi^*}(X^*,X))\) is locally solid, where \(\varphi^*\) is complementary to \(\varphi\) in the sense of Young.
