    First the authors introduce two definitions: For \(1<p, q< + \infty\) a Banach lattice \(X\) is said to have the uniform disjoint \(S_p\)-property, in short UD\((S_p)\)-property, (respectively, uniform disjoint Tq-property, UD\((T_q)\)-property), if there exists a constant \(C>0\) such that every normalized disjoint sequence \((x_{k})_{k=1}^{+ \infty}\) in \(X\) satisfies an upper \(p\)-estimative (resp. a lower \(q\)-estimative) with constant \(C\), that is, for any \(a_{1},\dots, a_{n} \in \mathbb R\) and \(n \in \mathbb N\), we have \[ \biggl\| \sum_{k=1}^{n} a_{k} x_{k} \biggr\| \leq C \biggl(\sum_{k=1}^{+ \infty} | a_{k}| ^{p} \biggr)^{1/p} \] \[ \Biggl(\text{resp.} \quad C\biggl(\sum_{k=1}^{n} | a_{k}| ^{q}\biggr)^{1/q} \leq \biggl\| \sum_{k=1}^{n} a_{k} x_{k} \biggl\| \Biggr). \] Then, they relate these new properties with Boyd indices \(p_{X}\) and \(q_{X}\) in the context of separable rearrangement invariant spaces \(X(I)\), where \(I\) is either \(\mathbb N\), \([0,1]\) or \([0, + \infty]\). Finally, in the last section they study the connection between the UD\((S_p)\)-property and higher order smoothness of Banach lattices, in the sense of the existence of differentiable bump functions.
