Families of discrete Schrödinger operators on the line with potentials generated by a homeomorphism on a compact metric space and a continuous sampling function are considered. A notion of recurrence of sequences generated by a sampling function \(f: \Omega\rightarrow {\mathbb R}\) is given, where \((\Omega,T)\) is a minimal system and \(T: \Omega\rightarrow \Omega\) a homeomorphism. By Gordon arguments for spectral properties of discrete Schrödinger operators, it is proved the absence of point spectra for a residual set \({\mathcal F}\subset C(\Omega)\) of continuous sampling functions (taken as potentials) on a residual set \(\Omega_f\subset \Omega\). Several applications, particularly to shifts and skew-shifts on the torus are presented.
