Hedgehogs describe as hypersurfaces (formal) Minkowski differences of convex bodies or closed convex hypersurfaces. The author gives a brief survey of hedgehog theory and a short introduction to the Minkowski problem for hedgehogs and to the problem of search for Sturm-Hurwitz type theorems. Finally, he introduces a new notion of index for hedgehogs with first geometrical applications.
