In this short self-contained paper the author proves the following Theorem. If \(X\) is a log terminal two-dimensional affine variety, then every integrally closed ideal on \(X\) is a multiplier ideal of some pair \((X, \mathfrak{a}^t)\). This result was previously shown in the case when \(X\) was smooth by \textit{J. Lipman} and \textit{K.-i. Watanabe} [Math. Res. Lett. 10, No. 4, 423--434 (2003; Zbl 1049.13003)] and also by \textit{C. Favre} and \textit{M. Jonsson} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 18, No. 3, 655--684 (2005; Zbl 1075.14001)]. One should note that the hypotheses of the theorem are sharp: if \(X\) is not log terminal or not a surface, then the statement fails to be true [see for example \textit{R. Lazarsfeld} and \textit{K. Lee}, Invent. Math. 167, No. 2, 409--418 (2007; Zbl 1114.13013)]. However, as pointed out in the paper, in the case of a surface, one still might hope to extend the result outside of the log terminal case (perhaps to the rational case) by only looking at ideals contained in the multiplier ideal of the ambient variety.
